Bob Dylan's First Philadelphia Appearance
Bob Dylan had his first Philadelphia performance here, for legendary folk DJ Gene Shay, according to an interesting Web page at http://biffco.com/phila-sites/. Added on 12-2-18: Dan DeLuca's article in the Dec. 2, 2018, Phila. Inquirer, p. H4, has a lot about Dylan's early days in Philly . The Invisible City site says the Ethical Society concert was on May 3, 1963. Mr. DeLuca describes some of the particulars, such as about 45 people attended and tix were $3. He goes on that the Oct. 1963 Town Hall show is often wrongly listed as the first in Philly. He also mentions a possible earlier show at the Second Fret. For the Ethical Society show, he writes, DJ Gene Shay picked up Dylan and his girlfriend, Suze Rotolo, at 30th Street Station.
