The front of this building was redesigned by architect Victor Gruen in 1946. The blank multi-story wall was designed to hold the Robinson department store logo (its name in script). The store no longer exists, and the big sign was removed. Robinson still appears vertically on the west wall. This information is from Inga Saffron's column in today's Philadelphia Inquirer, at p. H21.
