About

Trenton Speedway on Site of Grounds for Sculptor; Concerts; Black Driver

An auto racetrack, Trenton Speedway, was here until 1980. The concrete foundation is under what is now a sculpture garden. Promising African American driver Tommy Thompson was killed from injuries in a race here on 9-23-78. See the Philadelphia Inquirer, 9-28-18 at pp. D1, 8. Bob Weir of the Grateful Dead was in a band called Kingfish that played at the speedway on 8-24-75. The lineup was Aerosmith, Kingfish, Poco, Slade, Nils Lofgren, Mahogany Rush and Hootchie Kootch. That information is from the lostlivedead blog.
