Pan Am Flight 214 Crashed Here on Dec. 8, 1963

Pan American World Airways Flight 214 crashed here on December 8, 1963, killing all 81 people aboard. At the time, the site was a cornfield. There is a real plaque on the grass island at the entrance to Turnquist. Lightning was the cause. Before this disaster, it was believed that lightning could not affect a plane. I learned of it in today's Philadelphia Inquirer, at p. B1, but there is quite a bit about it on the Web.
