About

Nirvana, many others, played this small Philly bar.

J.C. Dobbs was here from 1975 to 1996. (It then became the Pontiac Grille, and now it is The Legendary Dobbs.) As J. C. Dobbs, this small bar hosted Nirvana (2x), Pearl Jam, Green Day, Bo Diddley, Smashing Pumpkins, Soul Asylum, Offspring, Oasis, Steve Earle, Ben Vaughn Combo and George Thorogood. At various times, Philly legend Kenn Kweder would either perform here or bartend here.

Comments : In Dan DeLucas Philadelphia Inquirer article of 11/8/15, he laments the recent closing of this club, and says that when it was the Pontiac Grille, he caught Dwight Yoakam, Beck, Oasis, Jeff Buckley, Bo Diddley, Whiskeytown, Evan Johns & the H-Bombs, the Chills, and Alex Chilton. He also mentions that in 1983, Robert Hazard filmed the music video for Change Reaction here. He also saw Mike Ireland perform at Pontiac Grille, when he, his friend Luke and British novelist Nick Hornby were three of maybe six people in the room. In 1991, he saw Nirvana here.
