About

World's Best Pecan Pie (and Iggy Pop Played Here)

There has been a tavern here since 1876 (it was even a speakeasy during Prohibition). It had been a live music bar/venue that hosted Iggy Pop, Hole, the Killers, the Decemberists and Elastica. (It's manager during those days got involved with terrorism and eventually was arrested and pled guilty.) Now, the new owners turned it into a Southern-style food gastropub with a great beer selection, and a super jukebox. On a recent Sunday we sat by the window where the stage had been, thinking of the shows that were presented there, and the good Po' boys and gumbo we were eating. But I must say, their pecan pie with cinnamon cream is the best I ever had.

Comments : I must say, the William Penn Inn in North Wales, PA (and on Cyber Plaque) gives the pecan pie here a run for its money. The William Penn bakery is only open from around Thanksgiving until the end of the year, each year. (Weinrichs, in Willow Grove, PA, has very good pecan pie.)

Comments : On todays Dan Reed show on WXPN-FM, Dan mentioned that between the time The Strokes recorded the Is This It? album and released it in 2001, they played here for a time on every Wednesday night.
