Bill Haley had house band here, Pre-Comets

Bill Haley and the Saddelmen were the house band here when it was just called Twin Bar, in the early fifties. They were a country band that was beginning to rock (or beginning rock, I should say [in a sense, as rock and roll had many catalysts over a long period of time- Ed.]), and had a song called Rip The Joint. They morphed into Bill Haley and the Comets, who debuted Rock Around the Clock at HofBrau Hotel in Wildwood, NJ, on 5/29/54. There is a lot about this on the Web, and the information above is from http://www.nytimes.com/2007/07/10/nyregion/10rock.html.
