Early Hip-Hop Downstairs Here, 1981(Club Negril)

From the New York Times Style Magazine, 4/22/18, at p. 48: In 1981, the young impresarios Ruza Blue and Michael Holman brought Afrika Bambaataa and breakers like Rock Steady Crew to Negril, a downstairs reggae club at 181 Second Avenue, for Thursday night parties. There is quite a bit about it on the Web. See, for ex., https://digital.library.cornell.edu/catalog/ss:455544, for a poster with Negril apparently mispelled as Negrill.
