The sixth floor courtrooms here saw many exciting trials. In 1895, there was the trial of Herman Mudgett, aka serial killer H.H. Holmes, in Room 676. In Room 650 in 1929, "Scarface" Al Capone pled guilty to a concealed weapons charge. In 1934, "Slick" Willie Sutton was sentenced in a City Hall courtroom. For escaping prison, he was tried in Room 653. Killer and torturer Gary Heidnik was tried in Room 653, as well as murderer Elmo Smith and Joey Coyle, who found $1 million in the street and spent it.
