P.T. Barnum Museum

Artist Charles Wilson Peale started a museum of the natural world that became the Philadelphia Museum Co. It fell on hard times and about 1850 it was purchased by P. T. Barnum, who ran it as a museum at the S.E. corner of 7th and Chestnut Streets until it burned down on December 31, 1851. See the Phila. Inquirer, 12/4/11, at D2.
