This building was built in 1906 by the great-grandfather of author Thom Nickels. There was a controversy because Catholics held popular Saturday night dances here, and the local Methodists were teetotalers who objected. It was also the town's main gathering place for serious political meetings, banquets, wedding receptions and gatherings of the Italian Social Club.
