Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band performed in the prison chapel for inmates here on 12/7/72. A prisoner, later identified as Joe Williams, got past the guards, crashed the stage, and pulled out an alto sax and joined in with the band, and played great. See Bruce by Peter Ames Carlin, at pp. 142-143. Curiously, Mr. Springsteen's maternal grandfather, lawyer Anthony Zerilli, spent time as a prisoner in Sing Sing ( Bruce at p. 7).
