Automat - 611 West 181st Street

A Horn & Hardart Automat was once here. The New York Times, 1/29/12, at p. RE 7, said it was designed in 1930 by Louis Allen Abramson, a departure for Horn & Hardart, who had stuck faithfully for a decade with F.P. Platt, a store specialist. The Times reports that the site was taken over by a bank in 1978 and the facade was covered over. The Times says that it is now a Sleepy's mattress store and that there may still be some of the original facade under the new one.
