This hotel was built in 1909 by F.O. Stanley, one of the brothers who invented the Stanley Steamer. Theordore Roosevelt and John Philip Sousa stayed here. It is said to be haunted by a ghost named Lucy. in 1974, author Stephen King stayed in Room 217, and had the nightmare that inspired his book, The Shining, which came out in 1977 and was made into a movie.
