Willie Edward Puddin' Head Jones, who played third-base for the Phillies and was on the pennant-winning Whiz Kids in 1950, sold Christmas trees here in the parking lot in the late fifties. There was a moving account of sportswriter Frank Fitzpatrick, as a child, purchasing a tree with his dad from this baseball hero on a Christmas Eve. It was in the Philadelphia Inquirer, 12/25/16, at p. D2, reprinted from the previous December. Baseball players made little money in those days, and often moonlighted.
