A Works Progress Administration (WPA) studio, the Philadelphia Fine Print Workshop, was here in the late thirties and early forties. Much innovation went on here. Quite a few African American artists, such as Dox Thrash, worked here. See the Philadelphia Inquirer, 5/4/14, at p. C5. I see on the Web that the first floor was once the Regency Ballroom, and a nightclub called Benny the Bums (which I don't think is related to the newer Benny the Bums seafood restaurants in the city). This building, the adjacent Cypress Street alley, and 309 South Broad St. (next door, home of Philadelphia International Records and also on Cyber Plaque), is going to be razed to build a condo building, according to reports on the Web.
