Four or five decades ago, when I was a kid, this site in the Cornwells Heights section of Bensalem was the location of Sarandrea's Farm. I remember that Mr. Sarandrea's son, Freddy, had the Esso gas station at the corner of the property at Cornwells Ave. and Hulmevile Road. We used to ride our mini bikes across the road at the farm that contained the Ramblers little league field at the time (since moved several blocks south). Mr. Freddy Sarandrea was a nice guy and would sell us gas for our mini bikes. His service station had done something that is a thing of the past. On Hulmeville Road, lines were painted to measure stopping distances to test brakes for state inspections. When no other cars were coming (probably impossible today), the car would be driven at a certain speed and then the mechanic would measure how far it took it to brake.
