People pass by this sculpture so quickly that they usually miss what makes it controversial. There is a giant faceless snake emerging from the male figure's groin. It is often said that it represents a sexual organ and stands for virility and fruitfulness (hence the title, Spirit of Enterprise), and that the sculptor, Lipchitz, pulled a fast one on Philly by getting it by the censors.
