Starting in the fifties this was a country & western bar with a great 2-story neon sign out front. It had been unoccupied for 17 years, and in 2013 became a hip concert venue night club. The neon boot sign no longer works, but looks great. It's anonymous creator [s]haped the boot to resemble a map of Italy, since this stretch of Broad was predominantly Italian American when the venue opened, according to Inga Saffron's article in the Philadelphia Inquirer, 2/8/15 at p. H 20.

Comments : The neon on the sign is working again. Todays Philadelphia Inquirer, at p. B2, has a photo of it being reinstalled after being fixed. From the caption, Made in 1959 by Angelo Colavita, now 88 ..., and the photo shows Mr. Colavita talking with sign specialist Ernie Mandia.
