Bruce Springsteen courted his wife Patti Scialfa in the Empire Diner and in Clement Clarke Moore Park, across the street, on a bench at the edge of the park where they would sit and drink beer from cans in paper bags. Bruce proposed marriage to Patti in the park, using a makeshift ring made from a twig from a bush by the side of the diner.
