J.D. Salinger, whose books included Catcher in the Rye, attended this college for one semester in 1938. There is a plaque commemorating this fact near dorm room 300 in Curtis Hall, and special scholarship students get to live in the small room. As of the time of an article in the Philadelphia Inquirer about the room, 9/7/13, starting on p. 1, the college's own plaque had a typo, as it said 1939, but the college reportedly planned to fix it.
