Comments : Yes, the Google map reference is misplaced south by a half-block. I managed that joint for a while in 1979-80, and my first hire was the inimitable Kenn Kweder as night bartender. Kenn and friends built a stage above the beer cooler and put on some truly weird and amazing shows there. After I was fired my replacement was stabbed while trying to break-up a domestic dispute between two women. He managed to get across the street to Jefferson Hospital, where he died of his wounds.

It could have been the Ben Wah Torpedos, or a band associated with Jeff Doctor Dirty Harris. I know it wasnt Kweder. Ben Vaughn Combo, maybe.

Comments : Youre very welcome. I neglected to mention that before I hired Kenn the bar was just a dive-bar with no food (despite the name) and very few customers. Kenn was parking cars at the time, and when he came in asking about a job I jumped at the chance to hire him, since his name was very familiar to me from the Secret Kidds posters plastered on telephone poles in my neighborhood. It was Kenn who made the place into a venue, and Kenn who filled the joint. Oh, and the place was owned by Barry Sandrow, who also owned Doc Watsons in the next block.
