Quakertown Farmers Market, aka QMart, is one of those old-time farmers markets/ bazaars/ flea markets that are so interesting. My 77-yr-old mom used to go to it when she was a kid (before a fire and a rebuild). The Just Stuff novelty store has an alligator habitat in the back of it, where Wally Gator, who is about 7-8 feet long, lives. Kids love him. Comments : I learned today that Wally the Alligator will be moving soon to the Just Stuff and Such booth at the Merchants Square Mall in Allentown, PA, because he is getting too big for the space here.

Comments : There have been many views on Cyber Plaque recently where the search request was Wally the Alligator. I Googled and see that there is a movement to free him from his small space at Q Mart. He is apparently a few feet longer than he was when this post originated.

Comments : Wally was moved to a sanctuary back at the end of June. Its nice that people like to make themselves feel better by patting themselves on the back for accomplishing this. But I know several shop owners at QMART and they told me that Management had already been working with the store owner and had agreed that Wally had to be moved already. Either way whats important is that Wally is somewhere now that he can enjoy the rest of his life.

Comments : The store is still there by the way. The area where Wally was is covered but when I was there 2 weeks ago there was a sign that said Under Construction New Space Coming Soon.

Comments : I was in the store yesterday and yes, Wally is gone. There is a large, plush alligator, over the spot where Wally once lived.

Comments : There is a good cover story in the Courier News Weekly for 6/12/13 on the history of the Quakertown Farmers Market. Something I found interesting was The building was 1200 feet long when fire struck again in 1960, but it was rebuilt with a sprinkler system, and air conditioned with equipment from the old Willow Grove Amusement Park. That is a nice reuse.
