Trains & Lanes in Easton, Pa, is a cool hobby shop.

You can see this place from Route 33 and I had been tempted to stop over the years. But the online reviews talked about how nasty the employees were and how dirty the place was. But my family was on its way home from skiing at Camelback yesterday, and the recent Web reviews seemed to be saying that the place has improved a lot. So yesterday, we stopped, and were greeted warmly by any employee we enountered. The place was fairly clean (as far as dust goes), but disorganized somewhat as many of these shops crammed with merchandise are. I wish we could have seen the giant slot car tracks in action. There is all kinds of stuff everywhere, but the big business appears to be remote control cars and planes. Some of the train aisles were too dark to really enjoy rooting through things looking for treasures. The HO engines are lined up next to each other so closely in cabinets you really can't tell one from another without reading all of the labels, and there are hundreds of them. We needed a battery for a Blade helicopter, and the young man at the counter was super helpful, taking extra time to go online to make sure we got the right one. The cashier ( Uncle Billy ) was very pleasant. In sum, I doubt that anyone who works here has a degree in visual merchandising, but I suppose that you come to expect full-service hobby shops to look like this. The fact that the people are nice makes up for it.

Comments : Stopped in again yesterday on the way home from Camelback. Place seems to be cleaner and neater than a few years ago, adn they certainly have the stuff. Employees were very helpful. The outdoor off-road track was covered with ice and snow but looked like it is awesome. There is also an onroad track that we did not walk up to.
