Old Philly Street Gang, Tenderlines, would meet here.

An African-American street gang used to meet at this corner in the 1960s. It was called Tenderlines, pronounced Tender-Lions. I first heard of it in an article on graffiti by soldiers on their way to Vietnam, in yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer, at pp. A1-A8. Apparently, a Little Ty who left his mark on a troop ship may have been a part of this group. But there is a lot about the gang on the Web, just Google Tenderlines street gang. There is a description of the Tenderlines' territory at http://articles.philly.com/1996-06-02/news/25627794_1_gang-members-zip-gun-automatic-weapons.
