The beautiful 1970 song, Our House, by Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, was written by Graham Nash just after having had breakfast here with his then girlfriend, legendary singer Joni Mitchell. Mr. Nash explains the song's origins on NPR's Fresh Air with Terry Gross (10/15/13), which can be heard at http://www.npr.org/player/v2/mediaPlayer.html?action=1&t=1&islist=false&id=234683906&m=234767203, with the story on Our House starting at 28:19. Essentially, Nash and Mitchell had breakfast at Art's, a deli frequented by celebrities, and on the way home they stopped at an antique store where Mitchell bought a vase. It was a drizzly day, so when they got home Nash said he would light a fire while Mitchell picked flowers in her garden for the new vase, and while she was outside he sat down at her piano and quickly wrote this song, born, as he said, out of an ordinary moment. Did the atmosphere at Art's contribute to his emotions that morning, I do not know, but seems as if it could have.
