Frank Birdman Phelan, aka Frank The Hatchet Phelan, a paid executioner, performed a for-hire murder here on 6/19/64, when this building was Dante's Restaurant. It is quite a story. I saw it in the reprint of the front page of the Philadelphia Inquirer, 7/26/64, which was a part of a paid advertisement for F.C. Kerbeck, the auto dealer celebrating 100 years in business. If you search, you will find quite a bit about the murder on the Web. ... Looking at the photo of the location, I'm not sure whether this is the building that housed Dante's, or a replacement.
