The Abington School District vs. Schempp case, U.S. Supreme Court 1963, originated here in 1956. Student Ellery Schempp protested in various ways when Bible verses were read. The Supreme Court ruled against mandatory Bible readings in public schools. There is a good interview with Mr. Schempp in the Philadelphia Inquirer, 8/6/13, at B1,5.
